One Policy. Maximum Flexibility.

Most pet insurers offer fixed Basic, Standard or Premium tiers with a whole lot of restrictions. Knose offers something better: a single policy with all the benefits of a Premium for the price of a Basic – and fully customisable.

Feature

Other Pet Insurance

Policy Customisation

Some offer flexibility, but most limit you to policy tiers (ex: basic, standard, premium or accident-only and premium).

Annual Cover Limit

Most offer $10K–$20K. Some go up to $30K, but only on top-tier plans.

Benefit Percentage

Most insurers cap at 70–80%. 90%-100% is rare and usually limited to premium plans.

Annual Excess

Options range from $0 to $500 depending on the policy tier.

Sub-Limits

Most apply sub-limits (e.g. $1,000 for tick paralysis, $2,600 for cruciate surgery). Only a few high-tier plans now waive them.

Chronic Condition Cover

Many cover chronic conditions, but often with sub-limits, exclusions, or reduced long-term support.

Dental, Behaviour & Alternative Therapies

Rarely included. Some offer limited cover via expensive add-ons or cap claims (e.g. $2,000).

What we don’t cover

Knose Pet Insurance covers what most providers don’t, but it’s important to understand what’s not covered in your policy.

❌ Pre-existing symptoms and conditions

Any signs, symptoms, or conditions that were present before your pet’s cover started or during applicable exclusion periods are not covered—even if not formally diagnosed yet.

❌ Preventive and routine items

Items like vaccinations, flea/tick/worming treatments, regular check-ups, and dental cleaning not related to illness/injury are excluded.

Brachycephalic Obstruction Airway Syndrome

BOAS and its related treatments are generally excluded, especially when they relate to anatomical conformation typical of flat-faced breeds.

Desexing

Desexing (spaying or neutering) is not covered. However, additional vet costs for treating complex cryptorchid (undescended testicles) are covered, minus the cost of routine neutering.

Overseas Vet Costs

Covers vet costs for illness or injury (excluding dental and behavioural conditions) while in New Zealand or Norfolk Island for up to 60 days.

Emergency Pet Boarding

Covers boarding costs if you’re hospitalised for 4+ consecutive days and no one else at home can care for your pet, for up to 30 days.

Your actions including pet care

No cover for illness or injury caused by neglect, not following vet advice, lack of vaccination, or issues during transport by a third party.

Certain treatment

No cover for elective, cosmetic, breeding-related, or experimental treatments. Alternative therapies aren’t covered unless added as an optional extra.

Certain vet costs

Vet costs aren’t covered if they relate to non-emergency after-hours visits, house calls, unapproved medications, or expenses after your pet’s death.

Other general exclusions

Your policy won’t cover treatment costs resulting from pandemics, epidemics, war, nuclear incidents, or natural disasters. Additionally, any illness or injury that happens during an exclusion (waiting) period is not eligible for cover.

Routine Pet Care That Helps Prevent Emergencies

Add extra peace of mind with a Knose Pet Care Plan – a separate, optional add-on that complements your pet’s insurance.

What’s included in a Knose Pet Care Plan?

  • Home-delivered parasite protection
  • Allowance for yearly vaccinations & check-ups
  • Unlimited 24/7 access to Pet Health Hotline
  • Exclusive member benefits: discounts, special
    offers, and more!

Already insured? Pet Care Plans are optional and don’t require a Knose policy. Routine care matters just as much as protection.

What are Knose’s Exclusion (or Waiting) Periods?

Knose’s exclusion periods are generally shorter than many competitors, especially for illnesses which have a 14-day wait compared to the 30-day wait common with other brands.

Here’s a summary of Knose Pet Insurance’s exclusion periods:

Accidental Injuries

Illnesses

Dental Illness

(optional extra)

Behavioral Conditions

(optional extra)

*Unless classified as Specified Conditions. Specified Conditions require a 6-month exclusion period.
The exclusion period is 14 days for younger pets and 6 months for pets over 1 year old.

10/10 personalised service!

In January, we brought a puppy (Bella) into our lives – she is beautiful! Recently she had a few gastro issues and subsequent vet visits. Knose Pet Insurance has been awesome. They acknowledged the claims immediately, and then followed up with personal emails advising us of the progress of our claims. We even received a message asking after Bella and a follow up to say how pleased they were that Bella is now doing well. Top class personalized service and a thorough explanation of the claim refunds. 10/10 guys!

Bella, insured with dog insurance from Knose Pet Insurance

Quick refund process

Submitted a claim for the first time after 12 months of insurance and everything went smoothly. I received regular updates of the progress of my claim and the refund process was quick once the team had received all the information from the vet.

Affordable pet insurance with easy claims!

Knose has been a great choice for pet insurance. The premiums are relatively affordable, claims are super easy to make by just uploading vet invoices, and the 24 hour phoneline that connects you with a vet nurse is a brilliant feature.

Amazing claims service

We searched for quite sometime for pet insurance for our toy poodle puppy and we’re so glad we found Knose’s Dog Insurance. They have been amazing. I really appreciate how you can call them with any query you might have and speak to someone in Australia who is clear and concise. Easy to put a claim through and you’re emailed throughout until your claim has been paid. Thank you to everyone for the great service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Knose Pet Insurance covers spinal issues, such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), provided they are not pre-existing and fall outside any applicable exclusion periods. Specified conditions like spinal issues may also have extended exclusion periods. Refer to your Certificate of Insurance for specific coverage details.

Knose may cover eye conditions or eye surgery for your pets if they result from an accident or illness, provided the condition is not pre-existing and any applicable exclusion periods have passed. Specific conditions, such as cherry eye, entropion, and ectropion are classified as “specified conditions” and may require additional considerations during the policy application process.

No, we don’t cover desexing, grooming, or training services as these are considered routine and elective care. Our pet insurance for dogs and cats is designed to step in when unexpected accidents or illnesses occur, giving you peace of mind when it matters most.

Some pre-existing symptoms and conditions may be considered cured and could be reassessed for coverage after a certain period. We’ll look at your pet’s medical history and any new developments to see if they can be included in your cover. Just get in touch with us for an assessment, and we’ll help you navigate the process.

Some pre-existing symptoms and conditions may be reviewed and potentially covered down the line. We’ll let you know which conditions can be reassessed, the earliest date for a review, and any information we’ll need. If a condition isn’t reviewable, it will stay excluded.

How do I choose the best pet insurance cover for my pet?

The best pet insurance is the one that meets your pet’s unique needs. Look at factors like the annual limit, benefit percentage, optional extras (like dental or behavioural cover), and any exclusions.

Make sure to compare pet insurance plans wisely. At Knose, we offer customisable options to give you cover that suits you and your pet.
