Aboard the Old Sydney Tram for a Cause

Last updated on

The Street Paws Festival at the Sydney Tramway Museum in Loftus proved that Sydney events can get better when you combine vintage trams with adorable dogs.

This pawsome day out had everything a dog lover could want, and then some!

All aboard the nostalgia express

The star attraction had to be the chance for dogs and pet parents to hop aboard a genuine 100-year-old tram from Melbourne.

With tickets collected by a proper conductor, furry passengers and their families enjoyed a scenic 4km journey towards Sutherland and the Royal National Park.

All the dogs were remarkably well-behaved! A testament to good training and managing dog behaviour in new situations. The vintage tram may have been the attraction, but those floppy ears in the breeze were the real head-turners.

Festival grounds buzzing for a cause

The festival turned the Sydney Tramway Museum into a lively hub of activity. Food stalls kept the humans happy while pet stalls offered everything from stylish dog dress-ups to gourmet doggy treats.

With so many tempting smells around, it was great to see pet parents being mindful about what foods dogs should avoid and careful to keep their pups away if any dropped on the festival grounds.

The real heart-warmer was seeing Country Companion Animal Rescue. They brought along adorable pups in need of forever families. One lucky dog actually found their new home and was officially adopted right there on the spot!

For new dog parents (and experienced ones too), getting Knose insurance early means you’re ready for any unplanned vet visits.

Heartfelt thanks to all the two- and four-legged friends who came together for a cause.

The competitions throughout the day added serious entertainment value. Early in the morning, clever tricksters and dignified old-timers showed off their unique personalities in “My Special Dog.”

Come midday, rescue dogs took centre stage to share their journey home with their proud new owners.

The afternoon’s “Cutest Pooch” was where things got seriously competitive. Dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds strutted their stuff for the ultimate cuteness crown (including several of Australia’s most popular dog breeds!).

Our team had the impossible task of picking winners when every single contestant was an absolute star.

Over at the Knose stall was “Guess the Vet Bill.” Visitors had to figure out which vet bills were most expensive, with correct answers revealing a sneaky tram puzzle. A great way to exercise the mind while the dogs did their own exploring!

All in all, it was the perfect mix of fun activities for both people and their dogs.

The Street Paws Festival at the Sydney Tramway Museum was everything you’d want from a great Sydney event. Sometimes the best adventures happen when you combine history, heart, and a whole lot of happy dogs.
