What we don’t cover
Knose Pet Insurance provides an extensive coverage, but it’s important to understand what’s not covered in your policy.
Any signs, symptoms, or conditions that were present before your pet’s cover started or during applicable exclusion periods are not covered—even if not formally diagnosed.
Items like vaccinations, flea/tick/worming treatments, regular check-ups, and dental cleaning not related to illness/injury are excluded.
BOAS and its related treatments are generally excluded, especially when they relate to anatomical conformation typical of flat-faced breeds.
Desexing (spaying or neutering) is not covered. However, additional vet costs for treating complex cryptorchid (undescended testicles) are covered, minus the cost of routine neutering.
Overseas vet costs are not covered, except for vet costs for illness or injury (excluding dental and behavioural conditions) while in New Zealand or Norfolk Island for up to 60 days.
No cover for illness or injury caused by neglect, not following vet advice, lack of vaccination, or issues during transport by a third party.
No cover for elective, cosmetic, breeding-related, or experimental treatments. Specialised therapies aren’t covered unless added as an optional benefit.
Vet costs aren’t covered if they relate to non-emergency after-hours visits, house calls, unapproved medications, or expenses after your pet’s death.
Your policy won’t cover treatment costs resulting from pandemics, epidemics, war, nuclear incidents, or natural disasters. Additionally, any illness or injury that happens during an exclusion period is not eligible for cover.

Routine Pet Care That Helps Prevent Emergencies
Add extra peace of mind with a Knose Pet Care Plan – a separate, optional add-on that complements your pet’s insurance.

What’s included in a Knose Pet Care Plan?
Already insured? Pet Care Plans are optional and don’t require a Knose policy. Routine care matters just as much as protection.
What are Knose’s Exclusion (or Waiting) Periods?
Knose’s exclusion periods are generally shorter than many competitors, especially for illnesses which have a 14-day wait compared to the 30-day wait common with other brands.
Here’s a summary of Knose Pet Insurance’s exclusion periods:
Injuries
Illnesses
Dental Illness
(optional extra)Behavioral Conditions
(optional extra)*Unless classified as Specified Conditions. Specified Conditions require a 6-month exclusion period.
♱ The exclusion period is 14 days for younger pets and 6 months for pets over 1 year old.

10/10 personalised service!
In January, we brought a puppy (Bella) into our lives – she is beautiful! Recently she had a few gastro issues and subsequent vet visits. Knose Pet Insurance has been awesome. They acknowledged the claims immediately, and then followed up with personal emails advising us of the progress of our claims. We even received a message asking after Bella and a follow up to say how pleased they were that Bella is now doing well. Top class personalized service and a thorough explanation of the claim refunds. 10/10 guys!
