There’s something truly special about a park full of dachshunds on a crisp autumn day — and the Dachshund Festival at Moore Park was exactly that.

Hundreds of long-bodied, short-legged legends descended on the grounds alongside their proud pet parents for a day of fun, friendly competition, and plenty of belly scratches. The atmosphere? Absolutely electric from start to finish.

We were thrilled to be part of the action as a proud sponsor — and what a day it turned out to be.

A record-breaking moment

The undeniable centrepiece of the day was the attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of dachshunds ever assembled in one place.

Watching hundreds of sausage dogs line up together — some cooperating beautifully, others with their own agenda entirely — was one of those moments that put a huge smile on your face. A true celebration of the breed and the passionate pet community that loves them.

Highlights from the day

🏁 Dachshund races — pure chaos, maximum entertainment

🛹 Susie the skateboarding dachshund stole every heart

🏆 Cutest Pup competition — the judges had a tough job

🌭 Costume parade — the hot dog outfit won the crowd

The dachshund races were a firm crowd favourite — equal parts competitive and comedic. Some pups sprinted to the finish line like seasoned athletes; others trotted cheerfully in entirely the wrong direction. Either way, everyone was cheering.

But perhaps the biggest showstopper of the day was Susie, the skateboarding dachshund. She glided across the path with effortless cool, leaving the entire crowd absolutely captivated. Susie, if you’re reading this, you’re an icon.

Costumes were everywhere, and creativity was in full swing. The classic “hot dog” outfit emerged as the undisputed fan favourite — perfectly on theme and endlessly charming.

Knose at the dachshund festival

At the Knose stand, we ran our popular “Guess the Vet Bill” competition — and it sparked some genuinely eye-opening conversations. Many pet owners were surprised to discover just how quickly vet costs can add up, which is exactly why pet insurance matters.

It was a fun and natural way to talk about something that can make a real difference to Australian pet families. For Dachshunds, it’s especially helpful in managing veterinary costs related to inherited conditions and injuries they may develop over their long lives.

Common health problems in Dachshunds

Knose covers the following potential health problems in Dachshunds:

Typically up to $5,000 per year
Small dogs like Dachshunds are prone to dental problems, including plaque buildup and gum disease, which can lead to infections and tooth loss. Regular dental care is essential for their health.

  • Covered by Knose

Typically up to $1,5000 per treatment
Dachshunds are prone to ear infections because their long, floppy ears trap moisture and warmth, creating an environment where bacteria and yeast can grow.

  • Covered by Knose

Our dog bandanas and pop-up bowls were a hit, with plenty of pups proudly sporting their new Knose accessories around the grounds. There’s nothing quite like seeing a dachshund strutting past in a bandana to brighten your day.

Supporting Wiener Crew Rescue

It was also wonderful to see such strong community support for Wiener Crew Rescue, the rescue organisation that partnered with the event.

All funds raised on the day went directly towards helping dachshunds in need — a cause that sits very close to our hearts. Seeing the community rally behind it was genuinely moving.

We absolutely loved being part of such a warm, vibrant, and community-driven event. If you were there, thank you for stopping by the Knose stand — it was a pleasure to meet so many wonderful dogs (and their humans!). We can’t wait to see you at the next one.

Frequently Asked Questions

In general, pet insurance is worth it because of the financial support it provides. For Daschunds, it’s especially helpful in managing veterinary costs related to inherited conditions and injuries they may develop over their long lives.

Routine veterinary visits are recommended at least once a year, or more frequently if your dog has any health concerns.

Standard vaccinations include distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, and leptospirosis. Your vet can provide a tailored vaccination schedule.

Dachshunds require a high-quality, age-appropriate diet (puppy, adult, or senior) to meet their nutritional needs. Consult your vet for tailored advice.

Look for extensive coverage that includes routine care, injuries, illness, and hereditary conditions. At Knose, your pet benefits from all these and more at a lower cost! It’s also helpful to have a high annual limit and benefit percentage to manage potential ongoing treatment costs.

When purchasing a new dog insurance policy for your dog:

  • The minimum age for entry for a pet is 6 weeks old.
  • The maximum age for entry for a pet is 8 years and 364 days old.
  • The maximum age for including or adding optional benefits is 2 years and 364 days.

There are no age limits when renewing policies.
