Hope To Love Walk: Helping Rescue Animals Step By Step

Last updated on

Here at Knose, we believe that every pet deserves a healthy and happy life. We’ve had the incredible opportunity to put this into action by supporting the Animal Welfare League NSW. A non-profit organisation in Australia whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need.

Rescue pets are amazing companions waiting for their forever homes. They show incredible resilience and often become the most loyal, grateful family members.

The Hope to Love Walk Challenge

The Hope to Love Walk Challenge is a virtual fundraiser that took place throughout March 2025, encouraging participants to set a monthly distance (KM) goal to raise awareness and funds for animals in need under the care of Animal Welfare League NSW.

Participants can walk anytime suitable to them to reach their goal over the month of March and are encouraged to ask their friends and family to donate to the cause.

Every step improves physical health while raising awareness and crucial funds for animals in waiting.

A rescue dog’s journey

Slugger is an 8-month-old cross breed who has absolutely stolen the hearts of many. He’s a resilient rescue dog but with a body in need of urgent medical care. Diagnosed with a congenital liver abnormality, he requires life saving surgery to have the best chance at a normal and long life. During the final week of the campaign, all donations went directly toward helping him get the treatment he needed.

This is a great reminder of why our support matters to shelters. There are many pets like Slugger who need serious medical help. Without financial support, the chances of recovery and adoption are limited.

Why rescue animals matter

In Australia alone, countless pets find themselves in shelters due to abandonment, neglect, or unexpected life changes from their owners. Some pets find their forever homes, but other pets are not quite as lucky. Without the support of rescue organizations and shelters, these vulnerable animals would have nowhere to turn.

Like Animal Welfare League NSW, shelters do more than just care for homeless pets. They also advocate for responsible pet parenting. It’s common now to give pets as gifts but when the festive cheer fades away, most of these pets are neglected.

Beyond just caring for pets, shelters educate communities too about the importance of spaying, neutering, microchipping, and providing lifelong care for pets. With these efforts, it’s possible to reduce the number of abandoned animals each year.

How you can help animal shelters in Australia

Supporting rescue pets doesn’t always mean adopting (though that’s a wonderful option!). Here are a few ways you can make a difference:

  • Donate

Even the price of coffee makes a difference. Your donation helps buy food, medicine, and other essentials.

  • Foster

It’s temporary for you, but it means the world to them. Opening your home gives rescue pets a break from shelter life.

  • Lend a Hand

Shelters are always short on help. Whether you’re handy with a mop, great with files, or eager to walk dogs, there’s a role for you.

  • Spread the Word

A quick post about shelters or rescue pets might catch the eye of their perfect match. Your share could be the one that changes their life forever.

The Mission continues

Our efforts don’t stop here. We continue to stand behind rescue animals and the incredible work shelters do every day. Hope to Love was just one of the many initiatives we’ll take to give back and make a difference to pets in waiting.

At Knose, our mission is simple: help pets live their healthiest, happiest lives because we believe pets are family. This goes beyond insurance and routine care plans; it’s about showing up and creating change in the lives of animals who need it most.

Thank you to everyone who laced up, walked with us, donated, and shared their support. Together, we’re making a brighter future for rescue pets across Australia.
