The Ekka 2025: A Week of Pink, Pets and Fun in Brisbane, Australia

Last updated on

Every August, Queenslanders flock to the Royal Queensland Show, affectionately known across Australia as the Ekka (short for “Exhibition,” because we can’t resist a good nickname).

Since 1876, this event has been where the country meets the city. It’s also the perfect excuse to eat far too many strawberry sundaes!

This year, Knose joined the fun with a bright pink stall you simply couldn’t miss. It was safe to say pink ruled the Ekka this year.

Tales and Tails from the Ekka 2025

The fun kicked off with the ever popular Spin the Wheel. Visitors were eager to line up for their chance to give it a whirl. Every spin brought a little suspense and plenty of smiles as prizes ranged from practical pet goodies to playful toys.

The real crowd pleasers were our pet first aid kit and pink feather toy that sent cat families home absolutely chuffed.

One of the best parts for us was chatting with so many Australian families. It’s not every day we get to see them face to face! Some dropped by to grab a quote and see what makes Knose different from other insurance providers. Those already part of the Knose family popped in to say hi and introduced us to their furry companions.

Of course, no trip to the Ekka is complete without visiting the dog and cat arenas. The dog pavilion was buzzing all week. Pampered pups (no fleas or ticks here!) competed for the prized Best in Breed title, each bringing their charm and A-game.

If we could declare them all winners, we would. The real showstopper, though, was Dancing with Dogs. Choreographed paws grooving to music? Yes, and they danced better than most of us.

Across the way, the cat precinct was hosting its own fun. Longhairs, shorthairs and everything in between were strutting (or lounging) their way to the grand Supreme All Breeds Cat of Show title.

Visitors happily queued, and the cats graciously allowed the attention (on their own terms, of course). And if you’ve ever wondered what those flicking tails and slow blinks really mean, our guide to cat body language is a good place to start.

More than a week of fun, fur, and family – we already can’t wait for the next one!

A Celebration of Life

More than just a show, the Ekka is Queensland’s largest annual event and a true celebration of community. Every year more than 400,000 people flock to the Brisbane Showgrounds to enjoy it all.

The Brisbane Showgrounds come alive with animals, agricultural displays, carnival rides, mouth-watering food stalls (strawberry sundaes, of course) and the unmissable EkkaNITES fireworks every evening.

Until Next Time

Ekka gave us a core memory to remember. We met new faces, reconnected with old friends and even picked up a few dance tips from the dogs in the pavilion. But more than anything, it reminded us why we do what we do.

The best part is seeing firsthand how much Australian pets mean to every family.

We’ll happily unpack the pink stall again when the Ekka rolls back around. See you next time!
